The Blountsville Elementary School Library Media Center provides a large variety of books in print, and some are available with audio CDs. The media center offers fiction and nonfiction reading materials. Students can also enjoy "National Geographic for Children" and “Time for Children” magazines.
The Library Media Center houses a section for teacher resource sets to be checked out for classroom whole group, small group and intervention time. We provide puppets and other stuffed storybook characters to enhance the enjoyment and extension of the story.
BES participates in Read Across America (Dr. Seuss' birthday) and has an annual Book Fair. It is the goal of the BES Media Center to match students with books they are interested in to instill a love of reading in each child.
Book Checkout
- BES online catalog, OPAC, can be accessed from home via OPAC HOME or at school via OPAC SCHOOL. Patrons can search for books by keyword, title, author, subject, or series, and then click on “Details” to read book summaries and locate call numbers. Users can also click on “Media” then click on “eBooks” and search to pull up eBooks. Then click on the second red title to open eBooks.
- Click here to access AVL. This online database provides students with a variety of free, reliable research materials including magazines, journals, newspaper articles, encyclopedias, information databases and eBooks (English & Spanish). These are broken down into elementary, middle, and high school sections.
- Students in K and 1st grades may check out one physical book at a time for a period of two weeks. Students in grades 2-6 may check out two physical books at a time for a period of two weeks.
- Books may be renewed for an additional two week period as long as the student brings the book to the media center for renewal. Books must accompany students to library class each time they come.
